Provides an analysis of the fundamental legal principles necessary for operations managers and business leaders to understand and mitigate regulatory risk and maintain compliant operations. Topics covered include: (1) court systems and litigation processes in the United States; (2) sources of law, including constitutional, statutory, and regulatory sources; (3) federal agencies and the rulemaking process; (4) the formation and discharge of contracts; (5) torts; (6) labor laws; and (7) intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Students will develop a framework to evaluate legal and ethical implications as a business leader. Not for graduate credit. Prerequisite: Junior standing. (Typically offered: Fall, Spring and Summer)
