Introduction to the study of Western music, history, scholarship, and research methods. Analyzes musical monuments as aesthetic objects and considers their relation to such issues as exoticism, politics and religious belief, as well as the status of this canon in the early twenty-first century. Prerequisite: (惭鲍厂颁听10103 or 惭鲍厂颁听101贬3) and 惭鲍罢贬听16003 or instructor's consent. (Typically offered: Fall and Spring)
