This course examines frontiers and borderlands in colonial Latin America and focuses on the regions of California, New Mexico, Texas, Brazil, and the RÃo de la Plata. It demonstrates that frontiers and borderlands are defined by the absence of a hegemonic European power and associated with the prevalence of Indigenous norms.
