This course examines the historic and contemporary relationship between higher education and society in the United States. Centering the duality of higher education in both shaping and being shaped by cultural ideals and social structures, it explores shifts in student demographics, experiences, and outcomes over time and how these relate to broader debates surrounding leadership, citizenship, public goods, and social mobility.
