This course focuses on the study of different classes of biomaterials and their interactions with human tissues. Topics include: biocompatibility; biofouling; hemocompatibility; wound healing response; foreign body response; design of orthopedic, dental and cardiovascular implants; opthalmological and dermatological materials; degradable polymers for drug delivery; nanobiomaterials; smart biomaterials and the regulation of devices and materials by the FDA.
